I still haven’t finished rearranging my bookshelf in alphabetical order, my living room is a mess of books and I keep coming up with new schemes of organising.
I went to the book sale just after lunch and it wasn't crowded anymore - it was my first time going and was debating if I should go join the morning queue, but now I'm glad I didn't! I was also disappointed by the offer. The charity shops are way better, both in price and quality. But I did find a collection of Dickens's journalism that I took home, quite chuffed about that!
Thank you for this delightful read. In some parts I wondered if you were becoming Oscar Wilde. Do you feel Wildish? Anyway, you’ve induced a feeling like recovery in me. As though I’ve recovered some almost lost part of my literary reading and writing self. Thank you. The first thing I did this morning was look at one of my many bookshelves (major, minor, core and expedient) and got rid of two expedients by putting them in my Little Library on the sidewalk. I felt very proud of myself.
Im not sure which came first for you— the impromptu novella or being caddish but I am taking this as wonderful writing advice! Finally, Please could I borrow/steal the brilliant. “parchment toenails” ?
I was in that church at the same time! I did find it more oppressive than before, possibly because I forgot what it was like to be totally crushed in such a mass of frail and anxious people.
I remember there was one point where my mind started remembering all these examples of crowded churches in history that had burned down? I thought “it’s annoying to spend all my time with you, mind”
I love the idea of a novella coming out of one suddenly! What a pleasant surprise that must be. Look forward to reading it.
Time to rearrange my own bookshelves as the ‘to be filed’ stack on top is getting ridiculous again, despite me now owning a Kindle.

I took a big bag of expedients to the little free library on Leith walk. bookshelf rearranging finally, mostly done.
Oh fun. Fun. Fun. Your description of the people at the book fair is absolutely delicious. Thank you for perking up my Monday morning.

I was worried about a crowd crush! did you find anything intersting?
I found some old books about Hamlet I’d enjoyed as a teenager, which is a phrase I’m slightly embarrassed to type
