I’m jealous. I always wanted to be translated into Japanese, become horribly famous there, and retire anonymously to Antibes.

I used to live in Japan. Never had coffee jelly but did have a sugared curried doughnut. And potato ice cream!

Omg I love these Japanese book covers - thank you for sharing! You have awoken me to the poverty of British book covers design! Jun Tada’s art work is PERFECT for Doll’s Alphabet and I adore the yellow coffee cup one too… xxx

There is a cool synchronicity between your work and Japanese aesthetics and Japanese design. (and maybe other aspects of Japanese culture including coffee jelly). Murakami's work sings to me and while it often has a forward momentum, it also has that thing you love of slow movements that dwell in place or mind. These covers are so SMOKEY, like charcoal. You are so right about covers. It's scary how NA covers in particular are technicolour whether abstract or figures. Please tell us more about what you experience there and what kind of conversations you have.

It's striking how much more colourful and interesting the covers are over there. Thanks for sharing.

I love your japanese cover! Also, the german translation of „Butter“ used exactly the same art: https://www.aufbau-verlage.de/aufbau-digital/butter/978-3-8412-2918-2

That Japanese cover for The Doll's Alphabet is perfect! Love the sewing machine and the bobbin head. I see what you mean about the contrast in styles. These covers are so creative.

Coffee jelly sounds delicious.
