It's the one place people remember, no matter how long ago they visited the Isle of Wight. The weird theme park. Come before it disappears into the sea! Full of quirks – I think some of the exhibits must date back to the Victorian era – bracing clifftop scenery and some rides for those over 1 metre tall!
Thanks for this piece - my mum is from Yorkshire, so I visited relatives there a lot as a child and really enjoyed reading your impressions. I also found the sisters’ displays in the Brontë museum a bit ‘quiet’ without being able to locate what bothered me. Like their real life was elsewhere. Don’t know if muses are arbitrary (maybe I’m over-romanticising the whole process, it just doesn’t feel arbitrary to me) but that whole statement is so brilliantly put that I’ll be thinking about it a long time
Just reread this, Camilla, after going to a whimsical theme park and being reminded of Jorvik. It’s such a brilliant essay.
i need to go to the chine one it looks amazing!

Starkly brilliant. Those devouring moors.
Thank you for bearing witness. Appalling that Branwell gets that glorification. Emily Brontë is a brilliant name for a giant mastiff x
