Just reread this, Camilla, after going to a whimsical theme park and being reminded of Jorvik. It’s such a brilliant essay.

It's the one place people remember, no matter how long ago they visited the Isle of Wight. The weird theme park. Come before it disappears into the sea! Full of quirks – I think some of the exhibits must date back to the Victorian era – bracing clifftop scenery and some rides for those over 1 metre tall!

Thanks for this piece - my mum is from Yorkshire, so I visited relatives there a lot as a child and really enjoyed reading your impressions. I also found the sisters’ displays in the Brontë museum a bit ‘quiet’ without being able to locate what bothered me. Like their real life was elsewhere. Don’t know if muses are arbitrary (maybe I’m over-romanticising the whole process, it just doesn’t feel arbitrary to me) but that whole statement is so brilliantly put that I’ll be thinking about it a long time
